Research

I have significant experience of undertaking research in the cultural sector. I have designed and delivered sector-wide, cross art form surveys and literature reviews as well as more focused research projects. I am passionate about engaged change and have deep experience in conducting consultation using a variety of methods.

Policy and strategy development

I have a people-focused approach to policy and strategy development and am skilled in teasing out consensus from large multi-disciplinary groups and supporting the evolution of organisations by applying this thinking. I have a commitment to building a culture of inclusion and to ensuring that all voices are heard in these processes. I have strong facilitation and communication skills, and extensive experience of writing policy and strategy outputs.

Change and organisation development

I have led significant organisation development programmes. I have experience of developing transformation strategy, building and motivating multi-disciplinary teams to deliver fast paced change programmes, while exciting a wider group of stakeholders in the possibilities of innovating. I often work at the intersection of non-executive and executive leadership teams and am experienced in developing and facilitating leadership teams using a coaching style to build capability.

Business planning and funding applications

I started my career learning the related disciplines of fundraising and business planning at Tate, where I initially worked in the Development Department on the capital campaigns for Tate Modern and the Tate Britain Centenary Development, then as a Business Strategy Executive supporting an integrated approach to income generation, then as Head of Policy and Planning. I have continued to support organisations in business planning and in forging change in their business models.

Evaluation

I have undertaken numerous programme and organisation evaluations. I have a strong interest in cultural value, and how organisations can build rigorous approaches to evaluating their impact and telling their value stories. I led the East Bank partnership in the development of its first monitoring and evaluation strategy.

Interim leadership and management

I have worked in leadership roles within organisations and as a freelance consultant, moving between the two as required by clients. On several occasions I was initially commissioned to undertake an organisation review and then subsequently invited to join the organisation in an interim leadership role. I build strong relationships with the people and organisations I work with, and often work with them on a long-term basis or over multiple assignments.
